IRWIN Racing’s Marcus Marshall has taken on Gold Coast Titans rugby league star Mark Minichiello in the Irwin Industrial Tools Ultimate Tradesman Charity Challenge on the Gold Coast.

The Charity Challenge took place ahead of this weekend’s seventh round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, the City of Ipswich 400, at Queensland Raceway and the Titans National Rugby League home game against Penrith at Skilled Stadium.

The measure, mark and drill event brought out the best DYI skills from Marshall and Minichiello, who is a qualified electrician.

In a best of three play-off, Marshall took two wins to one. The big winner was the Titans Community Foundation which received $1,000 courtesy of Irwin Industrial Tools.

“It was good fun,” said Minichiello.

“Great to try the Irwin Tools and raise some funds for Titans Community Foundation.”

“I do like performance cars and it was great to spend some time with Marcus and find out more about V8 Supercars.”

“At the Titans we train just about every day. I was surprised to hear that he’s only allowed four extra practice days away from race weekends!”

“In terms of fitness it’s somewhat similar to rugby league. Driving a Supercar at 100% for an entire race would be very gruelling.”

“He’s extended an open-invitation to come for a ride in the Irwin Racing Falcon. I’m very keen to take it up!”

The chance to take on another athlete always brings out the competitive spirit.

“It was for fun and charity – but it was also competitive,” said Marshall.

“With Mark being a sparkie by trade, he did pick it up very quickly. I’m sure that with some serious practice he would set a very competitive time.”

“I only live minutes from Skilled Stadium where the Titans play. It’s been pleasing to see them do well this year.”

“I’m looking forward to getting him in the racecar. In return Mark did offer a contact session with the team. I will decline that offer!”

“The Irwin Industrial Tools Ultimate Tradesman Challenge has been a hit at race tracks this year and this weekend we’ll find Queensland’s best.”
