IRWIN Racing’s Marcus Marshall has finished the second qualifying race of the L&H 500 V8 Supercar round at Phillip Island in eighth position.
It was the highlight of a strong weekend so far IRWIN Racing Falcon, which will start the 500-kilometre endurance race from 15th grid spot.
Marshall and co-driver Matt Halliday worked through a detailed plan in practice and qualifying, with the reward being Marshall’s result in the second qualifying race.
“That result is a great reward for all the boys who have worked so hard throughout the year,” said Marshall.
“There is still a big job ahead of us tomorrow, but the car has not missed a beat and it feels very strong going into the big race.”
“It has been a very good weekend, but it will be even better to get a top result tomorrow.”
“Importantly I feel that is achievable. We have a strong car, good crew and both Matt and I feel confident. Let’s get into it!”
Halliday finished his qualifying race in 21st position, which included a compulsory tyre stop.
“It has been a very good start to the weekend,” said Halliday.
“In all my years of doing these endurance V8 races, I have never had to qualify or take the green light!”
“It was good to get that under my belt and I’m getting more comfortable with the car and team. I’m ready for tomorrow afternoon.”
IRWIN Racing Engineer Marcus Clarke has been pleased with the performance of the team and is looking forward to the 113-lap race.
“We have met all expectations so far this weekend,” said Clarke.
“This is the highest that the IRWIN car has started. Doing it at a big race is very pleasing.”
“There is a lot of work to do tomorrow afternoon. However, we are up for the challenge and with a strong car, team and driver pairing we are looking for a top result.”
