Recent improvement has been rewarded with championship points for both WPS/WOW Racing drivers at the Skycity Triple Crown at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin, Northern Territory today.

Max Wilson scored 13th overall for the round in the #8 WOW Racing Falcon to remain 20th in the V8 Supercar Championship Series standings and collect the team’s biggest points haul for the year with 13 points.

Bargwanna was unfortunate to miss the chance of joining Wilson in the top 10 in Saturday’s opening race due to a tailshaft failure on the opening lap, but showed his terrific car speed to charge back through the field in today’s two races to score four points with 13th in Race 3 today.

Wilson did not enjoy the same pace today in Races Two and Three that saw the Brazilian take a season-best eighth in Race One on Saturday. Set-up changes were unable to rectify the slide in car speed and Wilson was forced to soldier on and collect three points Race Two with 14th place, but fell one position short of further points with 16th in Race Three.

Bargwanna was on a charge in Races Two and Three, starting from last on the grid in Race Two before moving forward to 16th. Bargwanna then scored his first points for the weekend with 13th in the final race of the weekend, placing him 22nd in the championship standings.

The overall improvement of the team has given added confidence to the squad ahead of the next round, held at WPS/WOW Racing’s test track of Queensland Raceway on July 20-22.

The car speed of the team’s cars was on display at Hidden Valley, with both drivers challenging for top 10 positions at different points over the weekend and the team performed brilliant pit work at each and every pit stop.

Now the focus is to continue this improvement as well as working on the consistency of the speed of both cars as the championship nears its halfway point.

The Skycity Triple Crown was won by Craig Lowndes, ahead of championship leader Rick Kelly and Mark Skaife.

WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY …

Max Wilson – #8 WOW Racing Falcon

“The car was not as strong on Sunday as it was on Saturday in the first race, ” said Wilson.

“We lost pace and could not get it back, so we had to do the best we could and try to finish in the points.

“In Race Two we were able to do that, but in the third race we had a couple of cars get past us and unfortunately that meant we were just outside the points.

“We had a strong car and a great performance on Saturday but unfortunately we did not have a good day on Sunday.

“The pace is there but we need to keep working at it. The signs are all good, we just need to be more consistent and keep moving forwards. ”

Jason Bargwanna – #10 WPS Racing Falcon

“The results in Races Two and Three were good results, so it’s certainly a good comeback from yesterday, ” said Bargwanna.

“It’s unfortunate that we were set back yesterday with a mechanical failure, but we got to show the pace of our car today.

“I’ve got to give some credit to our crew. We had great stops all weekend and when you are coming through the field it’s important to get as much of an advantage from the pit stops as possible.

“We had the car around the mark in the last race, so now we have to keep working at improving our pace to move us further up the order. ”

Craig Gore – Team Owner

“We have done well, but we need to do better, ” said Gore.

“We’ve shown top 10 pace this weekend and were strong at times.

“Now we need to keep improving because we need to keep moving forward and getting better.

“Both drivers were right up there fighting for position near the top 10 at different times. We have developed as a team to the point where we now need to do that all the time so that we are consistently challenging for the top 10 and points.

“Great stops by the crew this weekend. We nailed every pit stop and that’s an area we have been working hard on, so well done to the boys. ”
