Mark McNally has qualified 12th for Round 1 of the 2007 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at Adelaide’s Clipsal 500 today.
Mark’s time of 1:25.0322 was just. 68 of a second off fastest time set by Andrew Thompson. Despite being Mark’s best qualifying to date he felt that he could have been further up the grid. “I overdrove the car in the first part of the session, †Mark said.
“After we put our second set of new tyres on I got going but was held up when the tyres were best. “I was on a flyer on my very last lap when I got out of shape on the last corner and ruined what would have been a great lap. “It was still good enough to be my best lap but it should have been a lot quicker. “I am pretty down on myself for that error because I know it would have put me right inside the top five.
Mark was extremely happy with the set-up of the car over practice and qualifying. “The car has been great, it is balanced very well and I have a lot of confidence in it, †he said. “We have worked hard on getting a consistent set-up that we can carry through to the end of each race. “The team has done a great job this weekend, both in preparation and car set-up. â€
Tonight’s 24 lap race is scheduled for 6.20pm and will be challenging for the competitors with the setting sun creating visibility problems at some parts of the track.
“I know I have the speed so it is just a matter of driving smart and working my way up the field. “I want to make sure that we get off to a good start to the series, †he said
