An Aussie Racing Car onslaught is set to hit Eastern Creek Raceway this Queens Birthday long-weekend for Round 4 of what has become the most closely fought Aussie Racing Cars Series to date.
The ‘pocket rockets’ were absent from the Sydney circuit in 2006 but return with plenty of punch as the top drivers look to stamp their authority on the Series.
Paul Kemal, who leads the series and was the Round 2 winner at Albert Park is looking to turn his misfortune of 2005, where a broken axle ended his challenge for the Series, and be the first double winner of 2007.
“We are reaching the mid-point of the Series and it is important to perform well this weekend if I want to defend my 2006 title,” Kemal said.
With Paul Morris committed to racing V8 Supercars this weekend, James Ward is the only other driver able to achieve a second round win for the year.
“It is shaping up to be a very exciting weekend at Eastern Creek as the long straight provides a great chance for slip streaming which means the front runners never really get a chance to pull away,” James said.
“We haven’t raced at the track since 2005 so there will be a fair few drivers who have never raced around the circuit in one of these cars so it will be interesting to see how they perform.”
James Manderson, who currently sits fourth in the series points will visit Easter Creek for the first time in the category and he will be under increasing pressure from young guns Ben McCashney and Kyle Clews who are not far behind in the standings.
With the inclusion of Brad Lowe in the GRM Commodore the fight for the win will be that little harder. Lowe debuted at the circuit in 2005 and immediately impressed with a podium finish at that round.
Masters Cup points leader Steve MacGregor will look be attempting to continue his impressive run as he holds a strong points lead over Paul Newman.
Aussie Racing Cars practice session commences Saturday while the four races are held over Sunday and Monday from June 9-11.
