With setup changes and tyre wear a concern for today’s races, both drivers entered this morning’s test calm and confident that consistent pace would reward their efforts. In Race Two Price made a small setup change in the hope of extracting increased speed but admitted that it was probably a step in the wrong direction, the outcome 16th by the chequered flag.
Likewise Jack Perkins in the #11 Jack Daniel’s entry struggled in traffic and despite setting consistently quick lap times settled back into 26th.
With tyre supplies dwindling both Price and Perkins aimed to round off their weekend without incident and entered the third and final race with a cautious attitude, and while neither driver made any errors during the 50-lap outing the results were nearly identical to the second race - Price 20th and Perkins 25th.
On reflection Larry Perkins was happy with his young drivers progress over the course of the weekend. “Everything ran very professionally this weekend and a lot of that is down to the incredible maturity that both Jack and Shane are showing, “ said Larry.
“Neither of the boys had raced a V8 Supercar on this track before and they really put their heads down and learnt the track. I think the fact that both cars have been brought through three very demanding races without a single scratch is a great testament to the attitude both Shane and Jack drove with this weekend - and that was to learn. “
“Results-wise we’ve probably come out of the weekend a little under par. By that I mean I think the whole team would have liked to have seen the boys inside the top twenty for all three races, and while Shane (Price) was able to show some good pace, I think the inexperience of both drivers ultimately cost a better finish. “
“But both guys are gaining more and more experience every lap they complete, they’ve driven with maturity, they’ve shown good racecraft and every Round they’ll improve step by step, “ added Larry.
“I think the highlight of the weekend was Shane managing to keep a rather well known driver (Russell Ingall) behind him during the second race. At the end of the race Russell came up to me in the pits and said he was really impressed with how confidently Shane drove. For me that’s a big tick of approval from a really experienced racer and highlights the fact that we have got two young but very mature drivers. “
