A broken wheel and an instantly deflated tyre brought Tom Drewer s debut Supercar drive at Wakefield Park in NSW at the weekend (March 31-April 1) to a dramatic finale with only seven laps of 30 to complete in race 3 of the second round of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.
Drewer had been holding 19th in the 34 car field when the rear of the car snapped on him in the braking area for Turn 1, the fastest part of the circuit with the data showing a speed of over 220kph.
“I knew something had gone wrong in the rear (of the car) as soon as I went for the brakes, and from then on it was a wild ride with the Fujitsu/Image Media/West Race Cars Australia/Ignition Falcon exploding the foam Fujitsu track signage before heading over the grass towards the wall, Drewer said after his obligatory visit to the circuit s medical centre for a check up.
