Round 3 - Placemakers V8 Supercars
Pukekhoe Park Raceway, New Zealand
Today’s Action: Two 43-lap Races
Race Two: Price finishes in 25th
Race Three: Price Improves to claim 20th
In front of a 50,000 strong crowd of V8 Supercar fans Shane Price managed to claim his strongest result of the weekend in the third and final Race at New Zealand’s Pukekhoe Park Raceway.
After enduring a challenging start to the weekend on the notoriously fast Pukekhoe circuit, which saw Jack Perkins damage his Holden Commodore beyond repair, Price and the Jack Daniel’s Racing team built up their pace over the three races to move into a top twenty position.
“Shane (Price) worked so hard this weekend to get on top of this circuit, he was determined to get a top 20 result and his effort by the end of the weekend rewarded that determination, ” said Jack Daniel’s Racing principal Larry Perkins.
“It’s still disappointing that Jack (Perkins) had to sit the entire weekend out but he learnt a very valuable lesson and I have no doubt he’ll be able to bounce straight back at the next Round, ” Larry added.
While Perkins was forced to watch from the sidelines all eyes were on Price who maintained a consistent pace over the course of the weekend and was only hampered by a decision from event officials to stop to repair a damaged rear bumper in Race Two. The time lost effecting that repair cost Price dearly, forcing him down the order in 25th position.
As his rivals crumbled, including a spectacular crash between Paul Morris and Brad Jones on just lap 7 of the third and final race, Price kept his cool and edged ahead of his contenders to claim 20th in the final outing.
