The Tasman Motorsport driver has been working with a group of Hamilton West School students over the past six months to help create Go Murph Go-Kart To V8 Supercar. Money made from the project will be spent on school activities.
“It’s the result of a combination of hard work and some great ideas. I’m very, very proud to have my name associated with it.”
Teacher Marie Quill, who helped co-ordinate the Go Murph project, said many of the children did not know much about motorsport to start with.
“We had to get them up to speed and do a lot of research, which included books, DVDs and even some video games,” she said. “Some of the language used in motorsport was a bit tricky. The other tough part from them was writing about it from a car’s point of view.”
Student Matthew Handford, nine, said he “had a bit to do with the racing parts” of the book. He said the project had been enjoyable and the final version was “pretty good, especially the illustrations”.
