Ford Performance Racing (FPR) V8 Supercar drivers Steve Richards and Mark Winterbottom have qualified in 6th and 7th positions respectively for today’s first of three V8 Supercar races at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway.
Richards and Winterbottom were in strong form throughout the three 15 minute eliminator sessions, with speedy lap times that saw the blue oval duo always firmly placed within the top ten.
Richards qualified his Castrol FPR Falcon 6th after a fastest lap time of 1:09.6758s, 0.14s faster than his Orrcon Ford Credit FPR Falcon driving team mate Winterbottom, whose best lap time was 1:09.8205s. Richards and Winterbottom’s best lap times under four tenths of a second behind the Pole position winner, Holden driver Rick Kelly (1:09.4539s)
Todd Kelly and Mark Skaife made up the Hidden Valley top three, with Ford’s Will Davison and Jamie Whincup in the top five. Just 4/10ths of a second separated the top ten drivers today, with less than one second between the top 18 drivers, ensuring that we are heading for three very closely contested races in the Northern Territory over the weekend.
