Fujitsu Racing’s Jason Bright has his finished off a strong weekend with 11th overall at the fourth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Winton Motor Raceway in central Victoria.
The round was won by fellow Ford runner Jamie Whincup from Team Vodafone. This was Ford’s first round win of the year.
The opening race was the highlight of the weekend with seventh place for Bright. Race #2 saw the Fujitsu Racing Falcon finish in ninth place, before a challenging final race had Bright placed in 24th position.
Tricky conditions, including wet weather in the first two races, made for a tough weekend for all competitors. The Fujitsu Racing team made the right pit strategy calls in the opening two races as they maintained a top-10 position.
Bright set lap times in the top-five and if not for a tyre issue in the final race he was set for an outright result well inside the top-10.
“I’m pleased with the overall result, ” said Bright.
“This was a weekend where the weather could have made things a lot tougher in terms of a final result. However, the crew did a great job in making all the right calls; that gave us the strong results in the first two races.
“Race #3 showed that a small problem can really hurt you in this game. We had to make an extra tyre stop and it was impossible to recover from that point.
“Importantly we have hit back from a couple of tough outings. We are a legitimate top-10 team.
“We are continually learning as a group and the many hours the crew has put in has started to be rewarded.
“We have Eastern Creek next and we are confident of building-on from this weekend in Sydney. “
Chief Engineer Geoff Slater summed-up a challenging weekend from the pit garage.
“The overall result is very pleasing, especially with the tricky conditions that we faced, ” said Slater.
“From a technical side we are very pleased with the weekend. We have good pace and was showed that during practice and qualifying, before carrying that into the races.
“We made the right call in the opening two races, but it was by no means an easy decision.
“There were many teams over weekend that went from hero to zero with poor calls from the pits.
“It shows that we are getting better as a group and the package will continue to improve. “
The V8 Supercar Championship Series heads to Eastern Creek for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (June 9-11), including two races on the holiday Monday.
