JUST Four-one hundredths of a second was all that separated Sydneysider Chris Alajajian from his career first Fujitsu V8 Supercar series Pole Position in a frantic 20-minute qualifying session at Wakefield Park Raceway today.
A last-ditch lap in the session elevated the 20-year-old North Shore resident into second position, his best ever starting position since joining the Fujitsu series mid-season in 2006.
Alajajian s Protecnica Racing VZ Commodore got progressively quicker throughout today s practice and qualifying sessions – running comfortably inside the top ten for a majority of the second free practice session and the early stages of qualifying.
A late-session spurt lifted the distinctive yellow Holden into the top five with four minutes left in the session, and into its eventual second place with just 30 seconds left.
Alajajian s best of 1:00.4953 was just. 0483s from the pole position benchmark set by Tony D Alberto.
After missing the first round of the championship at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide earlier this month, Alajajian said today that the results gave added satisfaction to his V8 Supercar return.
“This is proof that good things come to those who wait.” He said.
