It has been a hectic 24 hours for the Albury based Brad Jones Racing and the pace isn’t likely to slow in the coming week.
With the Team BOC Transporter needing to leave the workshop on Sunday for the trip to the Gold Coast, the team are well underway on the preparation of two cars for the event.
The chassis that crashed in qualifying at Bathurst will is not expected to make a return to the championship this year. A close inspection yesterday ruled out repairing the car prior to the Indy round. The calendar for the remainder of the series also makes a return to the track unlikely.
That means that the team will use a spare chassis for Simon Wills for the remainder of the year. The chassis has not been used this year, but was driven by John Bowe in the second half of the 2006 championship. In Adelaide on a promotion, two team members made the dash Friday afternoon from Bathurst to Adelaide via Albury to pick it up. The guys returning to Albury Sunday morning at 10am, having driven non-stop from Adelaide Saturday night. The trip covering 2800km in a little under 36 hours.
24 hours into the repair effort, Car 12 has been striped back to the bare shell, both under the bonnet and under the car, as fire damaged much of the auxiliary systems underneath the car. The full wiring loom has been removed, including all fuel, oil and hydraulic systems. It is expected to go into the paint shop tonight, before moving back to the workshop tomorrow afternoon.
“It is going to be a very, very busy week for the guys, ” Brad Jones said today.
“But we have a top line group, and while we have our backs to the wall, there is no doubt that we will have two cars on the grid at Indy. ”
