For the first time, Brad and Andrew Jones will suit up for a V8 Supercar Championship Series sprint round, for the same team.
After two years ‘out of the nest’, the junior of the two Jones boys will take the reins of the #12 Team BOC BF Falcon this weekend in the Clipsal 500.
And all of the action may not be confined to the race track.
“Well, each car has Jones on the side; I’m going to get in whichever ones fastest! ” joked Brad today from inside Team BOC’s Adelaide bunker.
“I told the guys in the team to just put the surname on the car because if I feel as though car 12 is performing a little better, I might just slip over to the other side of the garage and take that for a spin. “
Andrew wasn’t buying into that discussion however.
“I think he just has a complex. If we put our initials on the car, then I would be an ‘A’ and he would be ‘B’, last time I went to school that would make me the winner, ” said the 26 year old Jones.
“And besides, he would have to fight me for it! “
All jokes aside, the light hearted exterior masks a different mood inside both drivers.
Brad was straight to the point. “Adelaide, in the past, has made for quite a tough start to the year for the team. We seem to have quite good race pace and are able to get ourselves into a good position, but we just can’t finish it off. This year, with Andrew and I; I’m hoping that we can turn it around. “
“I quite enjoy Adelaide, I enjoy the city, the track, the atmosphere; I mark my career highlight as driving the Audi R8 here in 2000, so to get a result here would be great. It also would put the team in a really good position heading into the rest of the ‘07 championship, ” Brad added.
That is a sentiment shared by nephew, Andrew.
“Being the first race of the year, I think there is a lot of excitement in the air. Each year we seem to stand around for months, just waiting for this round to kick off. I guess I have a lot of nervous energy and that’s not going to go away until I can get my backside in the car and get the first few sessions out of the way. I can’t wait though. “
“We had a test last week which has left me feeling quite positive about the year ahead. The lap time I did was the fastest that BJR have done around Winton for a couple of seasons, so I guess I am drawing a reasonable amount of positive energy from that, ” Andrew concluded.
The 2007 V8 Supercar Series will kick off this Friday with the first practice session of the Clipsal 500.
