HOLDEN Racing Team’s Todd Kelly will be aiming for back-to-back V8 round victories at Surfer’s Paradise this weekend following mediocre results for the red team at Bathurst.
“One of the positives that came out of Bathurst is that my #22 Commodore survived virtually scratch free. Hopefully it stays that way at Indy, you have to be careful or you can finish up nowhere, ” said Kelly, referring to the abundance of concrete walls that line the 4.5km circuit.
“I think the characteristics of our VE Commodore, which is improved handling and cornering, will suit us better.
“I love driving there because you need to be so precise to get results. Holdens have taken pole there on the last five occasions and another would go down well. Normally we wheel our cars out of the transporter, get our setups right and we’re immediately on the pace. ”
Mark Skaife took some consolation out of his Bathurst non-finish in that there was relatively minor repair work to his #2 Commodore.
“We were pioneers when it got wet on the mountain and it was the end for four of us in the top 10 – that’s what can happen at Bathurst, ” lamented Skaife.
“There was no structural damage to our car and it will be right up there this weekend. “Our HRT cars were strong last year and our goal now is to win as many races as we can between now and the end of the season to finish on a high note. ”
