Toll Holden Racing Team's Tander Winton's Quickest At Winton Motor Raceway hrt.com

The Toll Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander has set the quickest time during practice today for the eighth round of the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series, being held at Winton Motor Raceway.

Tander’s time of 1m 23.6947s for the 3km circuit in his #1 Toll HRT Commodore was 0.36s quicker than next best, series rival Mark Winterbottom.

Team-mate Mark Skaife set the eighth quickest time in his #2 Toll HRT Commodore, just 0.54s behind Tander.

Teams were confronted with varying conditions throughout the day, from warm winter sun to almost torrential downpours, playing havoc with car setups.

The round continues tomorrow with qualifying and Race 1, the first of three 40 lap races for the weekend.

Garth Tander, #1 Toll Holden Racing Team Commodore:

“Today was difficult with the weather constantly changing, but we were able to get lots of information with the new tyre at our test circuit. We might have been quickest today, we’ve got three-tenths, but my car performance wasn’t exactly there, but I’m happy in the wet, so we’re ready for anything tomorrow. “

Mark Skaife, #2 Toll Holden Racing Team Commodore:

“We had glimpses today, it wasn’t too bad and we were certainly better than the last time we tested when our tyre situation wasn’t great. My theoretical best was a 24.0, and I ran 24.2, then 24.2 again and didn’t quite do the best job. We’re trying to make the car flow a little better with balance and consistency and while today wasn’t as good as I would have like it was probably better than what I thought it would be. “
