Tony D’Alberto has extended his lead in the 2007 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series after winning Round 3 at Victoria’s Winton Raceway.
The win extended his Series lead to 60 points over Michael Caruso after entering the round with a 27 point lead.
“To win at Winton in front of my home crowd is awesome, ” Tony said.
“We did it a bit hard this weekend but were able to pull off the win anyway. ”
D’Alberto took the victory after qualifying second fastest and placing second, third and second in the three races respectively.
It was Tony’s drive in the reverse-top-ten race, where he drove from ninth to third, that set up the victory.
Intelligent driving saw Tony make the most of his car which was not the fastest in the field over the weekend.
In the final race Tony extended a handy lead but did not have the outright speed to take the race win over 24 laps.
However, second place was sufficient for the round win.
“We struggled a little with set-up this weekend and didn’t have the raw speed that we would have liked in the dry, ” Tony said.
“But to come away with the victory and an increased lead in the Series is awesome. ”
This victory was the second on the run for the 21 year-old Victorian who has not finished outside the top three in any race this season.
“Consistency is going to be important for the rest of the series because with the way that the points are structured it is very easy to drop points if you finish outside the top 15.
“The team is working really well together and we have some excellent guys working on the car who have played an important part in this result, ” he said.
