HOLDEN driver Paul Morris has labelled his V8 Supercar rivals “pussies” after they voted him Australia’s dirtiest and most dangerous driver.
The Supercheap Auto team racer, who partners Russell Ingall in the Commodore outfit, hit back at the sport’s superstars, but said he was untroubled by the tag.
“If you compare [my driving] to all the other pussies out there, it probably is [dirty] but they all drive around like girl guides and whinge and carry on where I just leave it on the track,” Morris said.
The results of the controversial poll were published in motorsport magazine Auto Action.
Ford star Mark Winterbottom was voted the best V8 Supercars driver and the man most likely to win the 2008 title, while Ford’s Craig Lowndes lost his title of Most Respected Driver to Holden’s Garth Tander.
Almost two-thirds of Winterbottom’s peers (65 per cent) say he will take this year’s title from Tander.
On holiday in Europe, Winterbottom was happy to hear the results.
“Awesome result,” Winterbottom said.
“It’s great to hear that from the guys I compete against.
“I’m glad I didn’t switch my phone off now.”
Lowndes also lost the Fairest Driver category, which went to Holden’s Rick Kelly.
“It’s good,” Kelly said.
“It makes you feel warm and fuzzy.
“These are the guys you race against and to have this from them is really good.
“It would be nice if they said I was going to win the title but I’ll take what I can get.”
The result marks a turn around in Kelly’s perception by his peers
