V8 Supercar team Tony D’Alberto and Rod Nash Racing has saved more than five tonnes of CO² emissions by running its team truck on biodiesel.
Focused on improving its carbon footprint, the team used BioMax’s B20 biodiesel to run the team truck where logistically possible during the 2008 season.
Team driver Tony D’Alberto said that converting to biodiesel is a simple yet effective way to reduce carbon emissions.
“There is a growing impetus in the motor racing industry to reduce carbon emissions,” Mr D’Alberto said.
“We’re focused on doing our bit for the environment and switching to biodiesel to reduce CO² emissions and other particulates was a no-brainer.
“By using BioMax’s B20 biodiesel in our team truck we’ve prevented more than five tonnes of CO² emissions from polluting the atmosphere,” he said.
Biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel manufactured to Australian standards from domestic, renewable resources. Pure B100 biodiesel can be mixed with petroleum diesel in varying proportions to produce environmentally-friendly biodiesel blends.
Mile Soda, managing director of Smorgon Fuels, trading as BioMax, said that BioMax’s biodiesel offers consumers a means to improve their environmental position.
“Research by the CSIRO shows that a B20 and B100 fuel can save a company between 15 and 75 per cent of CO² fuel-based emissions respectively,” Mr Soda said.
“Tony D’Alberto and Rod Nash Racing use our B20 biodiesel – a blend of 20 per cent biodiesel and 80 per cent petroleum diesel – so they’re reducing their CO² emissions by around 15 per cent.
“Our biodiesel is made from approximately 80 per cent used cooking oil and 20 per cent animal tallow (fats) and canola oil, and all fuels are produced to Australian Diesel and Biodiesel Standards,” he said.
