Toll Holden Racing Team’s Will Davison was flooded with relief after scoring the first pole position of his V8 Supercar career.
Davison won the Eastern Creek round last year when he was with Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) but did not get his first pole until today (Saturday) in the qualifying session for race 13 at the Norton 360 Sandown Challenge.
He is happy and mightily relieved to have accomplished the feat after showing the pace all year but until now has always just fallen short.
“It will wear off in a minute because I’ve got to think about the race, but it’s been p*ssing me off like you wouldn’t believe not having a pole to my name,” he laughed.
“It’s a bit of a monkey on your back.
“It’s a thing that has not been, well, not a weakness; I qualified quite well in my DJR car last year.
“We were in the Shootout most of the year and this year I’ve clearly got a faster package, but just when it counts I haven’t got it right.” V8 Supercars
Whincup took second place just one tenth of a second ahead of the Falcon of Steve Johnson.
Fords took out six of the leading seven positions with the Holdens of Michael Caruso, Russell Ingall and Todd Kelly rounding out the Top Ten.
Craig Lowndes was sixth in both practice and the Shootout. TVNZ
