Fresh off his best ever result in the V8 Supercars in the biggest race of the year, the Bathurst 1000, Will Davison is eyeing a late season V8 Supercar charge as the series heads to the Gold Coast next weekend.

Davison’s 3rd place at Bathurst with Steve Johnson was the first podium finish of the young gun’s V8 Supercar career and gives the Gold Coast resident renewed confidence heading into his adopted home race.

“Bathurst has really been a great confidence boost, both personally and for the team, ” Davison said.

“The team really deserve it as they’ve been working really hard all year, and the result has left Jim Beam Racing on a high with renewed confidence.

“It really was an unbelievable race, and even though in the last 12 laps I really thought we were in with a good shot for a first place finish, it is still a wonderful result.

“To get onto the podium in my fourth Bathurst start is a great achievement, and I’m looking forward to many more podium finishes in the future! “

After finishing 19th overall in 2006 during his rookie season as a full time V8 driver, Davison’s 2007 season has seen him reach a highlight of 7th in the Championship after the Queensland round.

Bad luck during the Oran Park and Sandown rounds saw Davison almost fall out of the top 10, however after his success at Bathurst, Davison is currently placed 9th in the championship.

In the four remaining rounds of 2007, Davison is looking to continue his Bathurst form to cement a place well inside the Championship top 10 in only his second full time season.

Davison believes that the DJR cars will continue to improve over the remaining rounds of the season, hopefully resulting in a few more podium finishes.

“Our cars are getting better bit by bit and as we have shown throughout the year we have some great speed, ” Davison said.

“Well my confidence is sky high at the moment and I know after Bathurst the team is in fantastic spirits.

“I am just loving driving the car right now and working with the team, we are getting along great. If I can stand on the podium again in a sprint round this year, I would be very happy. “

This weekend’s Gillette V8 Supercar Challenge at the Lexmark Indy 300 is Davison’s adopted home round.

Although Melbourne born and raised, Davison made the move to Queensland when he signed his contract with Dick Johnson Racing. He recently strengthened his commitment to staying on the Gold Coast after purchasing his first home in the area.

“It has really been a whirlwind few weeks for me. First there was the victory at Bathurst, after which I came home and moved into my new house, and this weekend is Indy, ” said Davison.

“It’s been a crazy time, but it’s also really exciting and I can’t wait to race in front of a home crowd. “

After 10 of 14 Rounds of the 2007 V8 Supercar Championship, Davison holds 245 points and is 9th in the Driver’s Championship.
