Will Davison heads to the Bigpond 400 V8 race in Perth confident that he has overcome the back problems he suffered during the season-opening Clipsal 500 in Adelaide. Davison qualified 13th for the Clipsal 500, and was running strongly in Race 1 until a puncture on lap 17 forced a pit stop, putting him a lap down on the leaders.
By mid-race Davison was in considerable discomfort but was still prepared to soldier on, however as he was a lap down with no chance of points under the new points system, the team took the decision to retire the car from the race so as not to risk further aggravating his back, or possibly damaging the car. Davison sought treatment from a physiotherapist post-race, who attributed the painful muscle spasms in Will’s back to an incorrect seating position.
Following the overnight treatment and change of seating position in the #18 Jim Beam Racing Falcon, Will topped the timesheets in Sunday’s warm up session and posted a number of fastest lap times during his climb from 28th to 9th in Race 2.
