At the “Corona Rally Mexico” the OMV BIXXOL Rally Team CZ with Stepan Vojtech and Michal Ernst has reached their best result in the Production Car-World Rally Championship. Sixth place means that the Czech OMV duo can rejoice over three points won. Balasz Benik and Laszlo Bunkoczi of the OMV BIXXOL Rally Team reached the finish in Leon in twelfth place. Thanks to fourth-best time on the final super stage it was a conciliatory ending for them, as well.

The joy is twice as big

At the finish line in Leon Stepan Vojtech (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) had found his good humour again. The Czech OMV driver celebrated the biggest international succes of his career so far with sixth place in the PCar-WRC-ranking. Last year he had finished seventh. A success he had more than once doubted during the last three days. Electronics problems almost forced the 29-year-old to retire. Vojtech: “This result is excellent, especially if one takes into account all that has happened during the last three days. During the shakedown the turbocharger took its leave, followed by continuous electronics problems and a tyre damage to tip it off. Now our joy is naturally twice as big and we are very confident for the future. Günther Aschacher and the Stohl-Racing-Team have done a marvellous job to make this possible for us. “ In Argentina the OMV BIXXOL Rally Team CZ will already be back again – a run that Vojtech also knows. In 2006, though, he had to retire on the second day.

Conciliatory ending

The OMV BIXXOL Rally Team with Balasz Benik and Laszlo Bunkoczi had to deal with even more problems. Already on the first day a turbocharger damage at the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX forced them to drive very slowly. On day two they dropped out prematurely on special stage twelve. A stone on the ideal line in a left turn proved to be their fate. It destroyed the transverse control arm. But thanks to SupeRally the Hungarian OMV duo was able to reach three tenth-best and one fourth-best special stage time on Sunday. In the final standings twelfth place was nevertheless the limit. Benik: “The fourth place on the super stage was something special. I am not dissatisfied considering that this was our premiere with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. We achieved several very good times. Unfortunately we also had to learn the hard way here. “

At the next run to the FIA PCar-WRC in Argentina from May 4 to 6, Romanian David Claudiu will steer the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX of the OMV BIXXOL Rally Team.
