Two OMV BIXXOL Rally Teams will take up the fight for points from March 9 to 11 at the “Corona Rally Mexicoâ€. Hungarian Balsz Benik – together with co-driver Laszlo Bunkoczi – will not only celebrate his premiere in the FIA Production-Car World Rally Championship with the OMV BIXXOL Rally Team but also compete for the first time in a series Mitsubishi Lancer. Stepan Vojtech of the OMV BIXXOL Rally Team CZ wants to profit by his experiences from last year and score the first WRC-points.
Respect for the unknown
Balasz Benik is a fixture in rallying in his homeland of Hungary. He has been fighting for the National Championship Title continually and successfully since 2001. Internationally he has already won the OMV Rally Waldviertel in Austria twice. So far the OMV BIXXOL driver has competed five times in the WRC an thereby scored 13th overall place at the Rally of Turkey. He nevertheless shows some respect prior to his first outing in a series car: “Since the beginning of my career I’v only competed in World Rally Cars. Therefore not only this rally but also the car are completely unchartered territory for me. Which means that we will be very careful and deliberate in the beginning. “ The Hungarian OMV diver was able to get in the mood already on Monday when 70 kilometres of testing were completed.
Result correction aspired
Stepan Vojtech already knows the Rally Mexico. The Czech OMV BIXXOL driver reached seventh overall place in the P-WRC-ranking last year. Building on these two WRC-points he aspires to better the result this time around. Vojtech: “Last year we drove a very good rally. This time it will definitely be very hard to score points since 17 entries mean that the starter field will be very strong. But in the meantime we have gathered several race kilometres with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX which makes us much more self-confident. “ Stepan Vojtech also completed 70 kilometres of testing on Monday. Both Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX have been assembled and prepared by Stohl-Racing and will also be supervised in Mexico by Race Engineer Günther Aschacher and his team.
