The Stobart Motorsport-backed crew of Barry Clark and Scott Martin will be looking to make it three from three as they tackle the third round of the Fiesta SportingTrophy International at Rally d’Italia Sardegna next week. Coming off back-to-back wins in the one-make series Clark has a commanding lead over the championship, seven points ahead of his closest rival in second.
The 24-year-old is looking forward to returning to the island that saw him collect fourth under tough conditions in last year’s event. Now with experience of the rally under his belt the lad from Aberdeen will be looking to top the time sheets in his Stobart Ford Fiesta ST.
Last month Rally de Portugal was also a record-breaking event for Clark when he became the highest placed Fiesta ST on a WRC event. Finishing 25th overall meant that he smashed the previous record of 29th which Clark also set in Norway earlier this year.
The Mediterranean island of Sardinia has played host to Italy’s round of the World Rally Championship since 2004 and competitors will be faced with 18 demanding stages during the three-day event. Punctures are a crucial factor here especially for front-wheel-drive vehicles, which are more subject to the harsher conditions on the rocky and sandy stages, running further down the order.
