Simon Evans and Toyota have had a great start to the 2007 NEC Australian Rally Championships posting the fastest lap time in today s Shakedown session at the Nambour Showgrounds on the Sunshine Coast.
Evans, the 2006 series winner in his Group N (P) Corolla came across the line with a time of 1min 09.4 secs followed closely behind by local driver Steve Shepheard in a Group A Mitsubishi Lancer and Dean Herridge in a Subaru Impreza WRX.
Evans was excited to be back behind the wheel of his Championship winning Corolla after the six month off-season break but was quick to stress his fast pace this morning was no indication of what the weekend ahead will bring.
“The showground here at Nambour is a great spot to give the cars a shakedown, but the weekend hasn t started yet and the stages in the forest are going to be a lot tougher, ” said Evans.
After being absent from the national rally scene for a number of years Shepheard made a welcome return and with ample local knowledge he offered his insights into this weekends course, which features a number of changes compared to recent years.
