Heading into tomorrow’s leg, Henning Solberg/Cato Menkerud will start the day in eighth position while Matthew Wilson/Michael Orr follow close in ninth. Latvala will begin his leg 2 attack from eleventh still just 9.8 seconds adrift of current leader, BP Ford’s Mikko Hirvonen.
Tomorrow’s run sees two passes over the historical Santa Rosa de Calamuchita – San Agustin test, which is famous for its huge water splash, drawing thousands of spectators and the world’s rally media to this magical experience.
Stobart VK M-Sport Ford Team Driver Henning Solberg said:
“It was unbelievably slippery on the super special tonight, there was a lot of water on top of the track and we found it hard to find traction and grip. It was a difficult stage to drive and not much fun but the real stages will start tomorrow and I’m concentrating on these. We are still learning about the car and after the delay to start the main stages, it will be very important for us to get things right tomorrow. ”
Stobart VK M-Sport Ford Team Driver Jari-Matti Latvala said:
“That was a totally different world. I have a much better feeling now after not such a good run in Buenos Aires last night. The track was different because they wet the surface, so, in some places where there was exposed tarmac the wheels would just sit there spinning. The crowd was amazing and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s stages now after being quick here tonight. ”
Stobart VK M-Sport Ford Team Driver Matthew Wilson said:
“Because the organisers watered the track it made it so difficult, especially after doing the recce during the week on a dry surface. It was just so slippery you could have easily written your car off in there! It would have been fun for the spectators though and it was nice to be able to come out and do at least one stage today rather than driving none at all. ”
