The World Rally Championship will have the same new points structure as Formula One this season.
Formula One is set to adopt a top-10 scoring system with a bigger difference between the winner and second place to encourage drivers to go for victory. Yahoo! Eurosport
The statement on the FIA website read: “Following a fax vote by the members of the World Motor Sport Council and the competitors in the FIA World Rally Championships, an amendment has been made to the points system to align with the FIA Formula One World Championship.
“This takes place with immediate effect.
“The scoring system will apply to the FIA World Rally Championship, the FIA Production Car World Rally Championship, the FIA Super 2000 World Rally Championship, the FIA Junior World Rally Championship and the FIA WRC Cup for Teams.” The Press Association
Under the new system, which will come into force this week in Sweden, points will be allocated to the top 10 finishers (rather than the previous system’s eight) according to the following scale:
1st: 25 points 2nd: 18 points 3rd: 15 points 4th: 12 points 5th: 10 points 6th: 8 points 7th: 6 points 8th: 4 points 9th: 2 points 10th: 1 point WRC
