Could Danica’s “BIG Announcement” Wind Up Being Pretty Small?

Could it be? Might it be? Will it be?
Thanks to my good buddies over at Jayski.com, I learned just before I sat down for Thanksgiving dinner that there’s a mention on GoDaddy.com about a “BIG announcement with Danica Patrick!” this coming Monday.
Could we FINALLY be learning Danica’s plans for both the Indy Racing League and her rumored foray into NASCAR racing?
Or is she going to announce that she’s retiring from racing and joining the convent?
I mean, given the rumors and reports we’ve seen and heard about her over the last several months, nothing would surprise me at this point about the tempestuous Ms. Patrick.
{intexwrap}
Less than two weeks ago at Phoenix, team owner Rick Hendrick made it seem like any chance of a deal with Patrick – at least from a NASCAR side – was quickly falling by the wayside.
And even though rumors insist that she’s signed a new three-year deal with Andretti Green Racing in the IRL, there’s never been an official announcement of such from the team or Patrick herself.
Will she finally, in essence, kill two birds with one stone on Monday – letting us in on both her IRL and NASCAR plans – when she makes this supposedly “BIG announcement”?
Or maybe, just maybe, Patrick may have read my column here on ARD the day after Hendrick made his claim about her future – or potentially lack thereof if she didn’t get moving into serious discussion ASAP – and she realized that maybe she better get things in gear.
For if she’s going to indeed come to NASCAR and race for, reportedly, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Hendrick in a mutual venture partnership, she has lot of things to do and increasingly less time to do them in, particularly when it comes to extensive testing, marketing, promotions, sponsorship appearances, etc.
Or, maybe she’s going to announce she has a new tattoo – or maybe that she’s getting her existing tat sandblasted off.
That’s the thing with Danica: you never know what she’s going to say or do. She’s like a box of proverbial Forrest Gump chocolates: you never know what you’re going to get with her.
When we expect her to do things, like potentially appearing at Phoenix International Raceway a couple weeks ago because she lives less than 30 minutes away, she didn’t. She could have had the whole NASCAR world, not to mention media and fans, eating out of her hand if she had simply made even just a cameo appearance at PIR.
And then, when we don’t expect her to do things, she invariably does wind up doing them, further adding to our surprise and her reputation as a conundrum of sorts, never being able to figure her out totally.
I mean, if there REALLY is going to be a “BIG announcement” on Monday, don’t you think we would have heard more rumblings about it by now? Don’t you think every NASCAR reporter would be stumbling over his or her peers to try and get the scoop and exclusive? Don’t you think we’d be having dozens of columns speculating what Patrick is going to do?
Instead, we hear about this supposed “BIG announcement” on a Web site that primarily sells Web site domain names. You’d think we’d learn about this in some other bigger and better form or fashion, right?
Or wait, maybe it’s something REALLY important, like announcing a redesign of her own personal Web site – which just happens to be hosted by GoDaddy.
Yeah, that HAS to be it. Because if she really, truly had a “BIG announcement” planned, wouldn’t she have made at least some of it known by now, rather than it simply being “reported” on her sponsor’s Web site?
Wait a minute, I know what it is (he says, with an optimistic twinge): she’s extending her deal with GoDaddy for another few years.
Yeah, that’s the ticket. That’s got to be what the “BIG announcement” has to be about. For, after all, a driver who only has one win in her career – albeit she did finish a career-high fifth in the IRL standings this past season – doesn’t have much in the way of “BIG announcements” that she can make in the first place, right?
Posted by on 11/26 at 08:37 PMThis article means nothing. The author has no clue what will be announced on Monday, yet he takes the negative. He talks about Phoenix and why Danica has not spilled some of the beans. There are many more plausible possibilities why she has not said anything. All the pieces had not been put together such as Andretti Autosports. I see you didn’t mention this. Probably didn’t know as you live in your mom’s basement. It could also be the NASCAR season no complete. As I said, all the pieces were still being put together. Worthless article.
Danica should get the Jermey Mayfield Award
