Win on Sunday; sell on Monday returning to NASCAR?

Remember that old saying in the NASCAR world, “Win on Sunday; sell on Monday?” That’s kind of gone away over the last several years, as the cars in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series have seemed to look more and more alike. The proverbial nail in the coffin for the aforementioned marketing slogan was the introduction of the car of tomorrow a few years ago that is now the car of today.

The car of tomorrow introduced common templates and took away many of the distinctive features that made a Ford look like a Ford, a Chevrolet like a Chevrolet, a Dodge like a Dodge and a Toyota like a Toyota. As a result, the cars no longer look like their consumer, street counterparts.

That may be changing, though, come 2013—that is if the 2013 Ford Fusion Sprint Cup Series car revealed during the 2013 Sprint Media Tour last week is any indication. Ford Racing showed off the body of its planned 2013 entry into NASCAR’s top division, and while it doesn’t look exactly like the 2013 Ford Fusion that’ll hit t he streets, it sure is a lot closer than the current car to the current Fusion.

Chevrolet, Dodge, and Toyota, meanwhile, are still keeping their Sprint Cup racers for 2013 under wraps, but if the Ford Fusion unveiled last Tuesday is any indication, the “win on Sunday, sell on Monday” mantra may be heading back to a track and dealer near you.
